Animador

Animador is going to be a web application that will enable organizations to run online, multilingual, viral marketing campaigns for websites. It will also help organizers to coordinate efforts with their contributors, as well as help the campaign to be self-sustainable by providing means to collect funds (a web shop and a donation management module; the later being aimed at non-profits).

The software is being developed by the GNU/Linux Matters non-profit in order to promote its multilingual awareness campaigns, such as Get GNU/Linux, Linux Preloaded and Get Freedomware. It just wants to get the FLOSS community involved in the promotion of freedomware, by joining efforts and making it really easy for non-technical users of freedomware to do their bit.

To get an idea on what Animador is going to be, think of Mozilla's SpreadFirefox.com website; it's loosely inspired by this platform, but:

• We want that everybody can join the community and communicate in their language; being able to speak in English must not be a requirement to promote freedomware.
• We will provide tools for those who have little time to contribute and tools for those who can spend several hours a week. We have a lot of unexploited potential in our communities, and this must change.
• Our SpreadFirefox.com-like linking module will provide localized buttons, which will link to the relevant localized websites.
• We will provide digital promotional materials (fliers, posters, etc) in multiple languages, which people could print out and spread among acquaintances and strangers.
• Our SpreadFirefox.com-like "Tell a friend" tool will be able to import contacts from address books in well-known formats and from IM services like the MSN (yes, that closed protocol with so much users of non-free software); once the contacts are imported, the referrer can add/remove contacts to be contacted.

Animador may come in handy for other organizations, and therefore it is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3, as published by the Free Software Foundation.
